Since the beginning of my marriage, the hubster and I have bonded in the kitchen. We learned to cook and bake together over time. Our kitchen has forged the strength of our love and it is still, after 8 years of marriage, the place that we end up together discussing important matters, laughing, playing, cooking, and taste testing.
The kitchen is also the room in our home where a family has formed. Shortly after my husband and I were married, his son came to live with us. As a young, completely unexperienced mother to a grown child, I found a way into his heart through food and fun in the kitchen. I still remember the first time we met and he helped me make a batch of Rice Krispy treats. Our boy is almost 14 years old now and he loves food and cooking. He loves being a taste tester for me and occasionally expresses a desire to be a chef.
Here I will write about my adventures (and misadventures) in the kitchen, but also about other experiences that I have with food. Perhaps, these experiences might include a particularly wonderful dinner at a local restaurant, or maybe an awful one. Being a military family, we have the rare opportunity to eat at many different restaurants in different places around the country, and around the world. Or I may write about a food-centric craft or event. But whatever I write, it will almost always be about food (I won’t exclude everything else out of fear that something exciting and stupendous will happen, and I will want to write about it!).
Everyone loves food. And a sure way to show you care is to make food for someone. For me, at least, nothing gives me more pleasure than to see the joy on someone’s face when they receive the goodies I have prepared for them.
All of that being said, everybody seems to have a blog these days. Everybody. I have been thinking about blogging for a few months now and I keep coming back to this fact and wondering, “What could I possibly have to say or do that would interest anyone when there are hundreds of thousands of funny, beautiful, intelligent, witty blogs out there that everyone can go to instead of mine?” I’m not funny. I don’t even think I’m a particularly good writer. And yet here I am. Starting a blog. A food blog, no less. I mean, how many stunning food blogs are there out there? And I think I have something new or unique to say? Well, maybe not (probably not), but I’m here and I intend to enjoy it. I’m here less for followers and more for the sheer pleasure of making something delicious and beautiful, eating it, and bragging about it. So…if you’re reading this, enjoy! This is my guilty pleasure, maybe it can become one for you too!
