Last Monday, the movers arrived at our home to pack up all of our stuff for the move!
They filled our home with boxes and tape, paper and blankets. By the end of the day, they had everything packed into boxes waiting to be loaded onto a truck. Well…almost everything. These particular movers left quite a lot of random things out and about. It was very strange. I was very ill that day. Bedridden, in fact, so I wasn’t there to supervise the packing like I normally do, and it showed!
We got it all taken care of though, especially once Loki stepped in to oversee the process!
On Tuesday, some new guys came in and put little orange stickers on anything that could be moved. They inventoried each and every item, then they wrapped all of the large pieces of furniture in thick brown paper.
Finally, on Thursday, yet even more guys arrived and began moving all of our belongings from the house to the driveway…
…and from the driveway to a great big truck full of large wooden crates.
Loki was very interested int his process, as well. He wasn’t very keen on them forgetting anything!
Although, he was pretty upset over the fact that his couch was being moved. He apparently didn’t realize that it was all or nothing here!
They were quite stumped as to how best to pack the hubster’s motorcycle! They worked it out though, in the end. Our things will be loaded safely into the sturdy wooden crates and stored in a warehouse until they can be worked into the freight schedule and be moved to a shipping port. When it arrives at the shipping port, it will be loaded onto a large freight ship and shipped by sea down to Puerto Rico, where it will be inspected by Customs before being loaded onto a smaller freight ship and finishing it’s journey to our new home in the Virgin Islands.
The entire process of getting our belongings from here to there is estimated to take four to six weeks. However, thanks to a new system, our delivery date has been set for August 16. That’s two full months without our stuff. How will I ever survive that long without my KitchenAid mixer?? Let alone an actual kitchen to cook in!! Well…nevertheless, I will blog on.
I have decided that for the next couple of months, while I wait for the opportunity to bake, bake, bake again, I will share news of my travels with you. My family and I spent this past weekend in Washington, D.C. seeing everything we could in a day. And, as you read this, we are on the road heading into Florida to spend several days at Disney World and Universal Studios!!
Most importantly, we have tickets to the brand-spanking-new Wizarding World of Harry Potter!! I can hardly contain my excitement!! And I have the extreme pleasure to share each and every detail, every little moment, every treat, every ride, every tiny interesting fact with all of you! I hope you’re as excited about this as I am!
I still have a couple of delicious recipes that I got the chance to make before the movers arrived, and I can’t wait to share them with you, but I hope that, in between, you will enjoy reading about, and seeing photos of, the fun my family will be having over the next few weeks! Stay tuned later this week for a recap of our trip to D.C. and the fun we had! See you all again soon! Happy Summer to you!
