Gimme Some Sugar: A Sweet List of Tasty Links

Since I’m unable to cook everything I want for the blog every single month, I have enlisted the help of a friend of mine to bring a little more variety. Every month or so, Andrea will share some of the links that have caught her attention the most over the past few weeks. Andrea loves to cook as much as I do. She also tries hard to find new, exciting, and healthy things to feed her family. She always finds the most interesting and intriguing (not to mention delicious sounding) recipes, so I knew I had to share her with you all. Enjoy! -Darla

Hello to all of you again! It’s Andrea, and I’m ready to share a new list of recipes to get you through another month. I’m just not sure how you’d make it through without me…HA! I’m pretty sure our dear Sugarbear is who keeps bringing you back, but I can dream right?

So, I was trying to decide what kinds of recipes I was going to list for you today. Of course Valentine’s Day is the ever popular theme in February, but I have decided to go with the other popular theme: Super Bowl XLV! Are you a Steelers fan or a Packers fan? Personally, I’m a Colts fan, so I really don’t have a preference this year. I’m not much of a sports fan, in general though. I’ve never even thrown my own Super Bowl party, but I’ve been to several and I think I prefer it that way. I get to make lots of yummy foods to take and share with good friends, and I can leave the mess at home to clean up later!

In my opinion, a good Super Bowl party (or any party really) has several yummy options to choose from. First, there’s always lots of finger foods. I also like to have a couple of different options for a main course, but the main course should be easy to eat. Lastly, everyone wants something sweet! I think there should be a couple of different kinds of desserts so people can have some choices.

These Twist-a-Ronis are very good! I’ve made them before, and my family loved them. They are simple to make and easy to eat.

I’ve been trying to figure out a reason to make these BLT Bacon Bowls ever since I first saw the recipe. Yum! I just think they are ingenious, and I wish I had seen them a long time ago! They would be awesome for anyone that is on a low carb diet as well. I think they would be a BIG HIT with the men in your house! Well…they will be with mine anyway. LOL

I always like to have chips and dip at parties. I think most people resort to a store bought dip when they throw a party. I love guacamole, but I have NEVER found a store bought guacamole that is any good. I just don’t think it exists. Fresh is the ONLY way to go. I feel very strongly about this! LOL This recipe looks like what I make. I just throw mine together… I do not follow a recipe. This particular guacamole recipe calls for cayenne pepper (which I love!), but I usually add some fresh chopped jalapeño to mine.

As I said before, I like to have a couple of different options for the main course. I just don’t think ALL finger foods makes for a good party. There should definitely be a meal served. These Mushroom and Swiss Sliders with Spicy Fry Sauce by The Pioneer Woman look so good. I want these. Now. They are small enough that people can eat one or two and still continue snacking on the finger foods.

I also like to have an alternative to beef as a main course. Some people are just not red meat eaters. I am not one of them, but I also love chicken. This Buffalo Chicken Chili sounds perfect for a Super Bowl Party! If you’re feeling up to it, you could make the Sugarbear’s bread bowls to go with this chili. How yummy would that be?! The recipe is linked below if you’re interested.

For your desserts, I still like to stay with finger type foods. So far I haven’t mentioned pizza. Well, if you HAVE to have a pizza at your party, here you go: Banana Split Brownie Pizza. I know Sugarbear doesn’t like bananas, but I do. I love bananas as a matter of fact. I think these would make a wonderful, and simple treat for dessert!

I like to have an option that doesn’t include chocolate, as well. These Mini Cheesecakes can be adapted with any kind of preserves you’d like to use or have on hand. They can be made ahead, and once again, they are finger foods. Bite size, yummy, cheesecakes! Who wouldn’t like that?

Last, but most certainly not least, since I know how much we all love Bakingdom, I have gone through and compiled a list of recipes that Sugarbear has given us over the past year that would be PERFECT for a Super Bowl party. Yum! She is so inspiring, and I just wanted to give you all an easy to click list:
