A surprise birthday party.
A virtual surprise birthday party.
For one of my very favorite bloggers ever.
I bet when you got up this morning, you didn’t know that you would be attending a birthday party, did you?
So it’s not just a surprise for the birthday girl, but it’s a surprise for you, too!
Surprise!!
These pretty, pink, sparkly, happy cupcakes are in honor of my sweet blogging friend Kristan!
Kristan writes the blog Confessions of a Cookbook Queen, and she’s one of the funniest, cutest, nicest, most talented people I’ve met.
And she isn’t just the Cookbook Queen.
She’s also the queen of all things pink (26 pages of results after searching for “pink”…that’s definitely royalty!).
And glittery.
So naturally, her birthday cupcakes should be pink.
And glittery. 🙂
I also decided that someone as fun and sparkly as Kristan needed fun flags for her cupcakes, and what better than royal flags proclaiming, “Long live the Queen”?!
Of course, the other side is all about the important day. After all, is there a more important day than the Queen’s birthday?
I think not.
I created the flags myself, inspired by Kristan, and after glueing them onto wooden skewers, I topped each one of with a tiny, pink gem.
I’m pretty sure that’s the only way to top off a glitter queen’s cupcake.
And the Cookbook Queen would naturally have pink cupcakes, but I knew that one shade of pink wasn’t enough for Kristan. Two shades of gorgeous pink batter needed to be swirled together for these glitzy cupcakes.
It was the only option.
In the end, these cupcakes made me so happy, IÂ decided that I have to make myself some glitter coated cupcakes fit for a queen when my birthday rolls around next month.
I hope they make today’s birthday girl just as happy as they made me. 🙂
Happiest of birthdays, Kristan! I hope you get lots of pretty things and everyone spoils you as you deserve!
xo and much love,
Darla

So cute! I love the batter and the glitter! Very adorable. And thr piping! What technique did you use?!
These are so darling!!! Can you post the recipe you used so I can try to re-create these?
Hi Katie, Thank you so much! I had so much fun making them. 🙂 I actually just made a basic yellow cupcake recipe, then topped them with some store bought chocolate frosting (i had some leftover on hand and though having chocolate AND vanilla frosting was a fantastic idea!!), and finished up with my favorite vanilla buttercream.
Hi
Thanks for this adorable free printable, I used it as part of the decor for my daughter’s Princess Charm School Birthday Party recently and they were dreamy….
