You’ve certainly given me the confidence to try making at home. It got very smoky due to the butter so beware if you have sensitive smoke alarms but it worked out very well. If your house is colder, it may take more time. *today = Thurs afternoon. For Indians Naan is not just a flat bread, there is proud and emotional attachment to it. Or do I need to add baking soda or instant yeast? Your email address will not be published. Is it necessary with this recipe so it doesn’t stick? Soft and pillowy, melting in mouth Instant Naan, that needs no egg, no yeast and can be prepared in just 30 minutes. It doesn’t need a lot of kneading or any resting at all. Preheat a heavy cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. The dough was EXTREMELY wet & sticky, so I am not sure what I did wrong. You can use a little flour to roll them out, too! This looks yummy! Hi! I'll be making this on a regular basis with my sourdough discard. ham, tomato puree, naan bread, hot sauce, grated cheese, cherry tomatoes. I am sorry these didn't turn out as expected for you! It the dough is too dry add water tablespoon by tablespoon until the dough is tacky, but not sticky. works a treat. You have made my whole week happier! I love naan, especially pipping hot naan from the oven. Divide into 8 pieces and roll out into circles that are about 1'4" thick. I need it to be dairy free. The dough bubbled up with the tips beautifully browning and i did not need to flip so the bubbles stayed intact while serving. 1 cup plain yogurt–I used Greek style cause that’s what we had. My sourdough is predominantly rye. This recipe looks lovely! Do you have another kind of skillet? Used ghee, not butter. Sourdough Whole Wheat Naan (Makes 8 flatbreads, adapted from Tracey’s Culinary Adventures) 1 cup unfed sourdough starter (straight from the fridge) 1/2 cup warm milk (I used 2%) 1/4 cup nonfat Greek yogurt Should I just add flour during kneading until the dough is no longer sticky? * Coming from a person who favours low hydration and cold and long fermentation for a puckery sourdough. Knead your mixture with more flour as you go to get the right consistency. It is also common for tandoor ovens to remain lit for long periods to maintain the high cooking temperature. Greek yogurt with more fat content will be better (non-fat doesn't work as well). Finally, somewhat cohesive enough to cook, it was just bleh-- I wonder if the difference was using coconut milk instead of cows milk? It shouldn't need much more proofing time. Yum! In a large bowl mix together the sourdough starter, milk and yogurt until smooth. Creating tandoor effect in home kitchen oven which will not heat beyond 500°F to 550°F is difficult but cooking in the cast iron skillet on a gas stove can mimic that effect. Let me know how it goes! This sourdough skillet naan is fairly easy to make and is great to keep in the freezer to use as you need it. Made this really excellent naan recipe as written. Make sure you keep an eye on it and test if it has been proofed enough. The history of this bread was so interesting. I have faith! I didn't have the time to wait the 2-3 hours to rise and rest, and it still was delish. The one way in which I strayed from instructions is that I let the dough, once formed, sit overnight nearly 12 hours to get that perfect spring-back. Sourdough Naan is  super easy to make (as long as you remember to give yourself enough time to let it rest) and is sooo delicious! Brush the top with melted butter and then turn over and cook for 1 minute. Thanks for sharing as always. Here are a few of my other favorite and equally delicious sourdough recipes: Sourdough Starter; No … Brush the other side with melted butter and flip. My Sourdough starter is 85% hydration so I considered adding a bit of extra milk, but I'm glad I didn't because I think it turned out about right--even just a tad sticky (consistent with the author's description). I used flour when rolling and it was fine. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. I have been making it regularly every week when I feed my starter. Yogurt Sourdough Starter. The recipe is perfect and it is the absolute best way to use my discard (and I have tried quite a few). This is probably the least confident I started baking, having changed around so many ingredients, and I typically don't review recipes because of how often I stray from the original (I'm naughty, lol) but I HAD to offer my suggestions with how delicious this turned out. It was just super sticky wet dough. This Sourdough Naan looks really yummy and I’m sure..it’s worth all the bite. And except for a little rolling pin action, sourdough naan is also really easy to make! Made the dough on Monday, and due to a full few days, just got around to rolling/cooking the naan today. Thanks. I added just a dash of fresh starter to the dough, divided them into 8 balls, let them rest for a few min before rolling thinly, and then cooked them on a cast iron skillet. Naan, the Indian flat bread is one of the most famous dishes around the world. Cover with a damp cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 2-3 hours. After 2-3 hours, I could see we were headed in the right direction, but I gave it more time just in case and I'm so happy I did! When not cooking, eating, or thinking about food, she is often hiking around area parks, creating intricate legos castles with her girls, watching nerdy tv with her husband, or curled up in a corner somewhere reading a good book. Hi Kathleen, I often save the majority of my naan dough to cook later. Thanks for sharing! During the Moghul era, Naan was served as breakfast at noble families. 3. Rivals restaurant naan. I’ve made it three more times since. Let me know how it goes! You can't leave them out, they help build the structure and texture of the dough. This recipe was spot on!! Naan bread can be made with bread flour or all-purpose flour alone or mix of Whole wheat flour(atta) and all-purpose flour. Thank you so so much! Booyah. A few notes/changes: I measured the ingredients on my scale as follows: Starter (150g), Flour (240g), Salt (1/2 tsp). Be sure to check out the recipe index where you can browse recipes by meal type and category! I followed the recipe quite rigorously - full fat greek yogurt, normal milk, and the hydration of my starter is actually less than 100%. That must be confusing, sorry! It would be O great if you could add weights in grams to your recipe!! Knead for a few minutes, until its smooth and no longer sticky. I just randomly found your blog looking for this recipe. Yogurt to be exact. i’m not Indian, but I too feel deeply attached to naan. Always brush one side with water before start cooking in the cast iron pan and you need heat the side brush with water first. When you flip the Naan over I brushed melted butter onto the side that was just done. I am definitely going to try these!! In fact, I don't want to sound ridiculous, but I think this was better than some I've had at restaurants! I do not have baking powder, is it ok to leave that out? My dough is currently proofing. <3. No flipping of Naan bread is needed for cooking the naan. I was only able to make 7 dough balls and some were on the small size. Your email address will not be published. I have updated the nutritional information to reflect that. The naan was light and fluffy and perfect and so easy to make. I tried making these but my dough came out watery. Snow White would be a true Hufflepuff - kind, loya Snow White would be a true Hufflepuff - kind, loyal, friendly, and fair, she embodies what makes Hufflepuffs so special. And being a whiz at both Herbology and Potions, she would’ve seen that poison apple coming from a mile away and wingardium leviosa’ed it right out the window. We’re doing a #mashup for Dressemberbound day 3, mixing my two favorite magical worlds, Disney and Wizards!
✨🍎
I would like to take this opportunity to share that Harry Potter and the Wizarding World will always hold a special place in my heart. The Trio’s adventures at Hogwarts helped see me through my husband’s deployments, many moves far from friends, and a lot of personal difficulties throughout the last 20 years. That said, I in no way support or endorse JK Rowling and her cruel statements and beliefs. In addition to raising awareness about @dressember and their cause to fight human trafficking, I would like to bring light to transgender awareness and rights. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. In response to this Harry Potter post, I have donated to @transequalitynow and I encourage you to do the same, if you’re able to.
